Hungarian Apple Pie: Alma Pite

INGREDIENTS

    SHORTCRUST PASTRY
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 6 tablespoons cold water
  • FILLING

  • 1/2 cupapricot preserves
  • 1/4 cup ground almonds
  • 6 medium cooking apples, peeled,cored and chopped
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon, juice and zest of, grated
  • 1 egg yolk , beaten
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

DIRECTIONS

  1. Sift the flour into a bowl.
  2. Add the salt; butter and margarine.
  3. Blend the butter and margarine into the flour using a pastry blender or fingertips.
  4. When thoroughly mixed, add the water.
  5. Stir with a fork until the mixture forms a smooth dough.
  6. Chill 20 minutes.
  7. Cut the pastry in half and roll out to fit an 8 inch pie plate.
  8. Spread with apricot preserves and sprinkle on the almonds.
  9. Combine the apples, sugar and lemon juice and transfer to the pie shell.
  10. Top with the remaining pastry and pinch the edges together.
  11. Prick the surface with a fork.
  12. Brush with beaten egg yolk and bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 45 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot or cold.

Apple Butter Pork Chops Ala Crock Pot

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 lbssmoked pork chops
  • 2 cups apple butter
  • 2 teaspoons quick-cooking tapioca
  • 1 teaspoonitalian seasoning
  • 5 red apples

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine apple butter, Italian seasoning and tapioca in crock pot.
  2. Peel and slice apples put in crock pot.
  3. Put pork chops on top of apples and spoon sauce over all.
  4. Cook on low 5-6 hrs or high 3-3 1/2 hours.

Low Cal Low Sugar Caramel Apple French Toast

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup egg substitute(like Egg-Beaters)
  • 1/2 cup Splenda granular
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup skim milk(or other fat level)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon promise low-fat butter
  • 2 sliceslight bread
  • Caramel apple Topping

  • 1 granny smith applesor golden delicious apples, unpeeled, washed, cleaned and diced into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup splenda brown sugar substitute
  • 1/2 cup regular Splenda granular
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons promise low-fat butter
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

DIRECTIONS

  1. French Toast:.
  2. In medium bowl, combine first 7 ingredients.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Pre-heat non-stick skillet over low/medium heat.
  5. Gentle immerse one slice of bread at a time in the egg mixture and cover each side well.
  6. Place 1 Tbsp butter in skillet and allow to melt.
  7. Turn the skillet to coat the inside of the pan.
  8. Gently place one slice of egg covered bread into skillet.
  9. Allow to cook for 3 minutes or until golden brown and gently turn.
  10. Allow to cook another 2- 3 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Since the bread was cooked in low-fat butter, the flavor is already there and no additional butter is necessary.
  12. Caramel apple Topping:.
  13. Place Splenda brown sugar and Splenda regular in a non-stick skillet containing the butter and vanilla.
  14. Cook over medium high heat until all sugars are dissolved and the texture is smooth.
  15. Add in corn starch by sprinkling while quickly stirring mixture.
  16. Allow to cook for 5 minutes stirring constantly.
  17. Add apples, cook entire mixture over low/medium heat until apples are cooked tender, about 10-15 minutes Mixture will thicken as it cools.
  18. Spoon topping over both slices of prepared French Toast.

Apple Rhubarb Pie

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 granny smith apples(chopped)
  • 1 cup rhubarb(chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • lemon juice
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoonsalmond extract
  • 1/4 cup cold water

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Mix apples, rhubarb, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, flour, and lemon juice in a large bowl.
  3. Combine flour, salt, and sugar.
  4. Cut in shortening.
  5. Beat egg and almond extract together with a fork in a measuring cup.
  6. Sprinkle over flour mixture.
  7. Toss dough together, and roll into two balls.
  8. With a rolling pin, roll one to ¼ inch thickness.
  9. Repeat process with other ball.
  10. Put one dough sheet on a pie pan.
  11. Place apple mixture on it.
  12. Place other dough sheet on pie.
  13. Crimp edges of dough.
  14. With a fork, poke small holes in the top pie crust.
  15. Cook pie for 15 minutes.
  16. Turn oven temperature down to 350 Fahrenheit, and cook for 35 more minutes.
  17. Let cool, then cut.

Apple Cranberry Crunch

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 (16ounce)can whole berry cranberry sauce
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butteror margarine
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS

  1. Arrange apples in a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon.
  3. Spoon the cranberry sauce over the apples.
  4. Combine oats,flour,brown sugar and pecans.
  5. Cut in butter until coarse and crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle over cranberry layer.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
  8. Serve warm.
